Change, while often difficult in the moment, can lead us to wonderful new situations, experiences, people, and lives. Join AMPs for this panel discussion to hear the inspiring stories of 3 hospitality professionals who were faced with change, embraced the silver lining of new opportunities, and never looked back!
Naomi Romanchok, CMP, Events Manager at Association of Farmworker Opportunity Programs (AFOP), is a longtime member of AMPS and former Chair. Working in the nonprofit and national association arena for decades has given her the hospitality industry credentials, skills, knowledge and expertise. As an Adjunct Professor at NVCC’s Hospitality Degree Program for over 10 years, Naomi’s professional experience and mentorship was forefront. Naomi is currently serving on several Client Advisory Boards and continues to be active in AMPS.
Luisa Mendoza, Founder and CEO of GTSE – Global Tourism Sports & Entertainment, is a an innovative thought leader who has 20+ years of experience in global business development, marketing, public relations, and sales. Luisa, is a leading tourism and sports executive, is the first U.S. Hispanic female to create a sports, entertainment, and tourism company GTSE – Global Tourism, Sports & Entertainment LLC. Luisa has a diversified career portfolio, where she serves as Producer of the Amazon Prime Docuseries, The Social Movement and in addition is Chief Business Officer for BostonExo. Prior to founding GTSE, Mendoza served as BSE Global / Brooklyn Nets Director of Global Tourism Development, making her the first tourism expert hired by a professional sports team in the U.S to build and manage a tourism vertical. During her tenure with the organization (2017-2019), she helped the Brooklyn Nets more than tripled revenue growth in sales from the global travel trade. Her 20+ years of experience in the tourism industry also included leadership roles at Marriott International, Silverstein Properties and NYC & Company, the largest Destination Management office (DMO) in the United States where Mendoza served as Sr. Director of Tourism Development for Spain, Latin America & the US Hispanic Market.
Mendoza’s humble beginnings are a constant reminder that no matter your background, race, or social/economic status, anything is possible if you have the courage, passion, and grit to follow your dreams. Mendoza’s goal is to leave a legacy where she can provide hope and inspiration to women, minorities, and children around the world.
Jeff Fugate, Owner and Chief Queso Officer of Empty Bowl Queso. After 30 years in Sales and Leadership he ventured out on his own to give everyone in the world the opportunity to experience good queso. He lives in Leesburg VA with his wife, two kids, and a menagerie of pets.
Devon Whitaker, Principal of EloracSoul, Healing Collective & Licensed Realtor in DC and MD, The Slavis Group, has always had a strong enthusiasm towards customer service. She has constantly been drawn to roles that utilize her unique talents and abilities to help others solve a need. Devon’s 16 years of sales hospitality experience transitioned seamlessly into the real estate arena when she earned her license in both Maryland and DC in 2014.
In addition to working fulltime, Devon pursued certifications in the Healing Arts all while being real estate resource for family and friends. She is certified to teach yoga and meditation, is a Reiki Energy Healer and finishing up her 200 Hour Sound Healing Certification.
